New Zealand roads offer two types of public EV chargers: AC(Alternative current) and DC(Direct current) chargers. All Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) have in-built converters to convert the AC power to DC power. So, if charging with an AC charger, BEV all automatically changes the power to DC and stores it in the battery. That's why AC chargers take longer to charge BEV compared to DC chargers. DC chargers are repid chargers as chargers convert the energy from AC to DC before even charging BEV and power is fed directly into the battery taking less time to charge.

AC chargers are the best option for regular use and increase the life of the battery while using public fast chargers too frequently deteriorates battery health over a period.

Public fast AC chargers offer 7-22kW and can take approximately 5 hours or more to fully charge a BEV depending on the charger you are using and the charging status of the battery.

Public rapid DC chargers offer 50kW+ and can take approximately 1 hour to fully charge a BEV depending on the charger you are using and the charging status of the battery.

EV charging stations are throughout New Zealand and can be found in supermarket and shopping mall parking, gyms, hotels, parks, beaches, and campgrounds, and some major gas station companies have also installed at many of their sites.

If you are hiring Tesla, the Tesla supercharger is the best option to charge your EV on the road as it is easy to locate the nearest station from the vehicle screen and takes roughly an hour to charge the full battery. If the Tesla Supercharger is not available nearby, or you are hiring MG4 EV then there are plenty of other service provider charging stations where you can charge BEV. All you need to do is download the application of the service provider and follow the instructions near the charging station.

Our Tesla vehicle comes with a Mobile connector compatible with New Zealand adaptors. So, if you need, you can plug in only in a 200-240 volt single-phase AC supply and a 50-60 hertz wall outlet that has a dedicated and properly-grounded circuit. The minimum single-phase current is 8A. For more details please read Gen2 Mobile Connector Owner's manual on the Tesla website or speak to our friendly staff during the pick up of your vehicle.

Our MG4 EV vehicle comes with Type 2 'Go' 7KW charging cable compatible with New Zealand adaptors. It can be plugged in a 230V AC supply and a 45-55 hertz wall outlet that has a dedicated and properly grounded circuit and rated current is 8A. For more details please speak to our friendly staff during the pick up of your vehicle.

For more on the public charging network please refer NZTA transport service journey planner page online.

Any promotional Promo or Discount code must be entered (and press “Apply”) after vehicle and service selection but before payment during reservation. The Promo code can be entered at the left bottom corner during the insurance selection page.

We recommend you book at least 3 days in advance of vehicle pick up date. In summer, and peak seasons (Nov-Mar), would recommend booking as soon as possible.

Bond or pre-authorization is required if the rental booking opts for Wings Bronze or Wings Silver cover insurance and the amount varies and depends on the vehicle hired. The rental booking with Wings Gold Cover doesn’t require any bond or pre-authorization as a security.

Any Bond or pre-authorization will be charged at the time of booking and will be refunded or released after rental. If it is reserved, it will take 3-10 working days to release, depending on your card and bank account. Please note that the reserved amount may not reflect as a transaction in your bank account.

An Excess applies in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle and the amount varies and depends on the vehicle hired. You are liable for this amount, referred to as your liability. The amount will be charged to your credit card and if the cost of the damage is lower than the excess, the difference will be refunded to you once the claim has been processed.

To hire a car with Wings Car Rental in Auckland, the Hirer needs to be at least 21 years of age with a current and valid driving license. To hire a Tesla EV all authorized drivers must be at least 25 years of age.

New Zealand law says,

- All children under seven years of age must use an approved child restraint appropriate for their age and size

- Children aged seven must be secured in a restraint if one is available in the vehicle.

WCR provides two options for child restraint in the car depending on the age and weight of the children.

- Forward-facing child seat which is suitable for children 2-4 years of age and 8-18 Kg of weight

- Forward-facing booster seat which is suitable for children 4-7 years of age and 15-35 Kg of weight

WCR does not provide Rear-facing Child restraints suitable for children up to 2 years of age.

International best practice recommends using a booster seat until the child reaches 148 cm tall or is 11 years old.

For more details please refer Child Restraint section Waka-Kotahi website or ask our friendly staff for the correct selection of the child seat.

WCR recommends reserving a child seat at the time of booking and in advance. Child seat requests at the time of vehicle pick up may not fulfilled due to the unavailability of a child seat.

Installing the child seat is a breeze, thanks to our user-friendly design and easy-to-follow instructions. Our trained staff is also available to assist you with the installation process, ensuring that the seat is properly secured in your rental vehicle.

Any rental extension must be communicated before 24 hours of the scheduled rental return time. The rate of the daily hire rental may be higher or lower than the existing rental agreement daily rate which will be communicated by WCR to you before the granting of the extension. Please send any extension request through the "contact us" form or give us a call on 09 217 2212.

The Hirer may return the Vehicle earlier than the end of the scheduled rental return time. No refunds will be provided for early returns if the vehicle is returned within 24 hours of the scheduled rental return time. If Hirer returns the Vehicle 24 hours before the scheduled rental return time, WCR can offer a refund after recalculating any difference for that period. Recalculation of the daily rate may differ due to shorter periods and the Hirer may lose any benefit of promotional offer or promo code for during that Hired period and the Vehicle if applied in the form.

For late returns, If the Hirer returns the Vehicle after 1 hour and within 3 hours of the scheduled return time, then the Hirer will get charged 30% of the current daily rate. If the Hirer returns the Vehicle after 3 hours of scheduled return time, then the Hirer will get charged for the current daily rental rate for that day. If the vehicle is returning more than 6 hours after a scheduled return time or as a valid agreed extension then the Hirer is liable to pay a one-off $250 fee plus the daily rental rate for each day with all other relevant charges.
